My Story

I believe our bodies want to heal when provided the right environment. Diet, lifestyle choices, medications and even toxins can affect your ability to achieve health. Knowing where to start and what to do can be confusing and frustrating. I can help by simplifying the process. Together we will identify your opportunity areas and create your roadmap towards optimal health.

My motivation for becoming a dietitian started in high school.  I needed to fill a vacant slot in my schedule and thought a nutrition class sounded interesting. At that time in my life I was eating a lot of fast food dinners and oh so many sweets. So, I thought what the heck. I ended up loving the course and knew then that I wanted to be a dietitian. This choice has been one of the best I have made in my life.

During the past 4 decades I have had the pleasure of working in hospitals, nursing homes and in private practice. I connect with my clients because I share their struggles. I have health issues including Celiac Disease and Hashimoto Thyroiditis. I adopted a gluten free diet, learned lots about leaky gut and uncovered food sensitivities and nutritional deficiencies. I’ve gained and lost unwanted pounds and reversed my prediabetes blood levels back to normal. Of course, there were struggles and stumbling blocks along the way.  But challenges can also be opportunities. I changed my mindset from “I should do …” to “I choose to do…”, committed to a journey of health and made many small changes that have made a big difference in how I feel today.

Yet as I was getting healthier others in my family were not.  I watched as my dad died from complications of Type 2 diabetes. In addition to being obese, he suffered from high blood pressure and cholesterol, poor circulation and painful neuropathy. He took his medications faithfully and followed up with his doctors frequently.  Yet, none of this prevented his fatal heart attack.  Looking back, I understand what happened.  My dad believed that taking medicines could cure him of his disease. He never had education on how his lifestyle choices were killing him.

All these experiences motivated me to keep learning, trying, sometimes failing, but persevering. I wanted to  help my clients in the best way possible. In addition to becoming a Certified Diabetes Educator, I have also taken years of classes that focus on integrative and functional nutrition. This has further given me the tools and perspective to treat the whole person instead of giving out the cookie cutter diet plans that are so common in my field. I focus on the cans, not the can’ts, to propel you forward towards success.

I have had the privilege of helping hundreds of clients improve their health. I love the satisfaction of watching my clients lose weight, reverse their diabetes, crush their sugar cravings or get off their medications as they adopt healthier lifestyles.

Success is just an accumulation of small steps.  Simple lifestyle changes can turn you into a phoenix. Together, let’s create a plan to help you adopt new habits that will allow you to emerge from the ashes to the healthiest you.
